Well, 2021 is off to a roaring start. The Capital riot was the incredibly sad grand finale of all of the violence that’s been happening all year. Politics and the media have both lost their minds. Nothing is objective anymore. And at this point I think we all need to just resolve to let our gaze turn from this increasingly unstable world and onto our good and sovereign God.
As crazy as 2020 was, I’m thankful for everything it taught me. I think the biggest and best lesson of all is that God is a good Father–my Father, our Father–and that we can trust Him through it all. We’ve had a lot of very heavy health trials as a family, and as these gloomy days linger, He’s ingraining into my mind the very pertinent fact that fear is absolutely useless; trust and faith (the opposite of fear) is what gives us the ability to live in freedom rather than bondage.
So…as we daily strive to keep our footing while the tides of the world continue to rattle and shift under our feet, let’s not forget this vital truth–God, our Father, is the unshakeable rock that we can stand on! Not a single circumstance of our daily life or of the state of the world extends His reach of loving care and control. And He invites us to walk with Him in peace as He continues to bring His perfect plans to pass.
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
…You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 16:5-8, 11
Grace and peace to you, and may you trust in our Heavenly Father as He guides us through these times.
