Vegan Chocolate Milk

January 24, 2018

For all of you out there who’ve waited, pined, nearly died, and are at-this-moment on the very razor edge of your seats for a vegan chocolate milk recipe, this is for you.

Haha, yes, I do realize that maybe one person is interested…perhaps nobody. All the same, I feel compelled to share this recipe because this frothy almond & date & cocoa flavored vegan chocolate milk is my afternoon indulgence and it is so easy and so totally guilt-free! I’m not sure where this recipe comes from, but I tried it for the first time years ago when a family member made it for me. But I’ll be honest with you, the first time I had it I thought it was terrible. Like, really bad.

So, if you’re not used to vegetarian or vegan eating, you might not like it. I could be wrong though! I’m not exclusively a vegan or vegetarian, but now that I have a much more developed palette for plant-based eating this is such a simple, healthy, and delicious treat. When I have the ingredients on hand, I don’t think twice about making this in place of afternoon coffee.

VEGAN CHOCOLATE MILK

INGREDIENTS

2 cups of cold water + a few cubes of ice for extra froth

1/2 cup of raw, unsalted almonds

3-4 pitted Medjool dates

2 tablespoons of cocoa or carob

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS

Add it all to your blender, blend thoroughly, and serve immediately. Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for garnish.

Also, just because I was curious and looked it up- Medjool dates are health and energy powerhouses! Here is a really interesting list of all their HEALTH BENEFITS.

But I kind of left out the best part…the kids don’t even want this, because it’s “healthy”, so I get it all to myself! That, my friends, is gold. If you’re in a non-vegan but chocolatey kind of mood, check out this homemade CHOCOLATE PUDDING and DARK CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING recipes.

Have a great day!

I just may try this. I’ve tried adding chocolate to store bought almond milk, but I want more almond flavor. Maybe this will do it. I’ll see. Fun to see this Sarah.
